Who Can and Can’t Get Invisible Aligners
May 23, 2019
Have you been thinking about straightening your teeth but are unsure whether invisible aligners are right for you? Perhaps you know someone who used aligners to fix a small gap or a couple of crooked teeth, but you can’t imagine that something so simple and easy to use could fix your smile. Well, you may be surprised what invisible aligners can do!
Who shouldn’t get invisible aligners?
It is true that there are some conditions that still need to be treated with old-fashioned metal braces. Severe under and overbites usually need braces, and invisible teeth aligners can’t fix jaw alignment the way metal brackets and elastics can.
Invisible aligners are custom-built for a tight fit that is designed to shift your teeth over time as you transition from each set to the next, so they work well on youth (especially during periods of growth spurts!) and on adults. However, children are not ideal candidates at that particular life stage and it is best left until later developments.
Who should get invisible aligners?
Most crooked and crowded smiles can be whipped into shape with invisible aligners. If you have crowded, gapped or crooked teeth, you may be a candidate for invisible aligners – even if you never thought something as simple as an aligner could straighten out your smile. The only other condition that will determine whether you’re a good candidate for aligners is whether you are committed to the smile of your dreams!
The Advantages of Invisible Aligners
A huge plus is that aligners are removable, but the treatment won’t work if you don’t wear them at all times, so don’t be tempted to take a break (except when you’re eating, drinking or brushing your teeth.) You’ll also need to check in online and upload progress photos every 90 days to make sure your treatment is on track. This includes registering your aligners by submitting their package code to the correct portal to maintain accurate communications throughout treatment.
Once upon a time, invisible aligners were only used for minor cosmetic fixes like gaps or crowding. Now we know that they can be used to fix a lot of structural and cosmetic concerns, from general straightness to spacing, crowding and even some minor bite problems.
